During my thirty (30) plus years of working on engineering projects I have dealt with a number of companies ranging from a “one man show” to multi-national corporations.
Over the past six (6) years AB Downs has been a company supplying goods and services to the BHP Group at Western Port. Some jobs were awarded on a cost plus basis, but vast majority were competitively tendered for and won against formidable opposition. The awarding of contracts is generally done after many factors are taken into consideration and applied to a decision analysis. Such factors include; quality of work, safety performance, management of industrial relations, value for money, past experience and the general integrity of the supplier.
I can say, without fear of contradiction that my dealings with AB DOWNS, and in particular David Sparrow, have made my selection of the successful tenderer an easy task. Over the past 2 years, AB DOWNS has been a Major subcontractor supplying skilled labour for existing equipment modifications or a total design & manufacturing capability for new special purpose machines & metal fabrications.
This work has always been carried out in a professional manner and to our total satisfaction. There have been many occasions when AB DOWNS have been requested to work through weekends & over-night to minimise our production down time. These extreme situations have always been met with a positive review, with the workload completed on time.

In October last year (2001) AB Downs Industries tendered to design, manufacture and install an extraction system at an Industrial Chemical Plant in the Illawarra area New South Wales. Their Quotation was based upon drawings and scope of works supplied to them for a chemical powder dust extraction system.
After reviewing their quote documentation and several telephone conversations between Damian Sparrow and me to determine their ability to supply a system capable of meeting the clients needs
The contract was awarded to AB DOWNS Industries in November 2001.
Damian inspected the site and measured all relevant information prior to construction of any components.
The extraction system was commissioned on the 28th February 2002 and met all the requirements of the original enquiry.
During the course of this job I found the staff of AB DOWNS Industries to be very professional and flexible in their dealings. Their obvious knowledge and experience in the field of extraction design and installation provided a trouble free & very successful project.
I would have no hesitation in contracting their services again and believe that any company engaging AB DOWNS Industries to produce an extraction system would be more than happy with the outcome.

During the large scale repair at Dandenong Works, (CSR/ Viridian Glass Manufacturing) AB DOWNS Industries completed up to $1m of capital improvements within a 17 week installation period in amongst a multi-million dollar project.
The works undertaken by AB DOWNS Industries were of the highest quality and workmanship and their flexibility in dealing with the constant changing environment was exemplary.
The tasks undertaken were extremely difficult often involving unsociable hours which they carried out in order to get the job done.
Their work is important to them and they showed this many times. I would personally recommend AB DOWNS Industries to any prospective builder.
